About the Douglas Historical Society
The Douglas Historical Society is a private organization with the following described mission:
1) To promote research and learning about the history of Douglas Massachusetts:
acquire, protect and preserve property, both real and personal, having historical
2) To preserve and maintain the E.N. Jenckes Store Museum for purposes of depicting a general store and life in a rural community during the early 19th century.
The Douglas Historical Society was first formed as a group in the late 1960's and was
incorporated as a corporation in May 1970. The Society is a non-profit private foundation, exempt from federal income tax under section 50 1 (c) (3).
Membership in the Society is open to any resident or non-resident of Douglas upon payment of the annual dues.
Officers of the Society are the President, Vice President, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary and Treasurer.
The Board of Directors consists of the above officers and additional members of the Society. The Board must have at least 1 1 members, but no more than 15 members, including the above officers. The Board meets regularly, at least six (6) time per year.
The Society has an annual meeting in April, and has various program and general membership meetings throughout the year. The dates and time are announced through various media and the "sandwich board" sign at the E. N. Jenckes Store. Meetings are usually held at the E. N. Jenckes Store, 283 Main Street Douglas.
